Health and Heroes Events sponsored by the Wawa Foundation
We were honored to have the Wawa Foundation sponsor two Health and Heroes events held at two of Robins’ Nest’s Family Success Centers, Bird’s Eye in Pennsville and Riverview in Penns Grove.
Despite the cold and snow, over 100 people attended both events as well as 20 firefighters and police officers from both Salem County communities.
Firetrucks, ambulances, and police cars were on hand for children to tour at the event held at the Bird’s Eye center, and the Pennsville Fire Department even had kid-sized uniforms for them to try on and feel like real firefighters!
The EMS Food Truck, from the EMS Cafe in Salem County, served hot dogs, chicken fingers, french fries, and drinks to all attendees free of charge. The Mayor of Pennsville, Robert McDade, and Mark Taylor from the VA also participated in the event on behalf of the Pennsville community.
At the event at the Riverview Family Success Center, a ShopRite dietitian and representatives from the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation were in attendance to teach community members healthy tips and recipes.
Activities at both centers included arts and crafts and door prize giveaways, with winners walking away with autographed Philadelphia Eagles memorabilia, Delaware 87ers and Wilmington Blue Rocks tickets, and fun baskets for movie nights, scrapbooking, and science. Participants attended from a number of different communities including Penns Grove, Carneys Point, Pedricktown, Salem, and Pennsville.
Thank you to the Wawa Foundation for their incredible generosity in making this event happen! To learn more about the Wawa Foundation, visit their website: www.thewawafoundation.org
