Steps Toward Independence
Steps Toward Independence (STI) is a transitional, supportive housing program that assists homeless youth, especially youth leaving the child welfare system, with life skills and support services to make a successful transition to self-sufficient living and to prevent long-term dependency on social services.
18 to 20
State-wide with priority given to Salem County youth.
Length of Service
12 to 18 months for youth who comply with program rules. Youth must discharge from the program prior to their 21st birthday.
Who Can Refer
Referrals are made through the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, transitional and independent living programs, community agencies, and homeless shelters. In addition, young people can self-refer for services.
